** These Campaign sites are within 10 kilometers from hotels or residences. |
Miscellaneous Information:
Dates: 1) Campaign dates: The Campaigns will begin on Friday evening, January 18, 2002 and conclude on Saturday night, February 2, 2002. That means there are 16 evening meetings plus three more on Sabbath mornings, making a total of 19. The last Sabbath may be "non-standard" if a mass-baptism is planned. 2) Travel dates: Given that flight schedules are somewhat unpredictable it is important for each evangelist to be on site well in advance of the meetings. Plan to arrive on Tuesday, January 15. This will give us Wednesday the 16th for orientation. Thursday we will each travel to our respective Campaign sites throughout the island. This will allow time on Thursday afternoon and Friday for familiarization with the city, Campaign location, translator, local pastor, hotel, etc. Departure, of course, may be planned for Sunday, February 3 or later, depending on the desires of the individual evangelist. |
Flight arrival information: It is time for us to start compiling your flight arrival information (airline, date, flight number and arrival time in Havana). If you don't see that information to the right of your name above, please send it to me by e-mail. |
Before Sept. 15 I will mail to each evangelist, at the address listed below, a set of four CDs containing newly revised sermon notes, in English and Spanish as well as matching PowerPoint presentations, also in English and Spanish. 1) Be sure to confirm your mailing address and notify me by e-mail if the one I have is incorrect. 2) On receiving these CDs you will want to print out the sermon notes in the language in which you will be preaching. In either case, you'll be using the Spanish PowerPoint presentations. Though it may seem to be a problem, I URGE you to print the sermons a) on a color printer (you'll find the notes MUCH easier to use if you can see the pictures that are embedded in color), and b) using only ONE SIDE of each piece of paper. It is far less distracting to the audience for you NOT to have to turn pages but rather slip them from one pile to another on the pulpit. The sermon notes are provided in Adobe Acrobat format and each file has a ".pdf" extension. If you don't have an Acrobat reader installed, I've provided one for you to install very easily. On the root directory of the English or Spanish Volume #1, you'll find a file named: rs405eng.exe Just find that file using Microsoft Explorer and double click on it and the reader will be installed. Then you can use Microsoft explorer, highlight the sermon you want to open on the CD, and it will open and is ready to print. |
Sermon Titles, Order, Decision Cards & Appeal Songs: Click on this heading for sermon information used in advertising. |
Appeal Songs: Regardless of whether or not it is used, the text for most sermons includes an appeal song. Music with English and Spanish words songs in Acrobat (.pdf) format may be downloaded here. Highlight the language of your choice. |
Insurance (New): The Inter-American Division will apply for limited insurance coverage for Campaign participants whose information is complete on the Campaign website (age, mailing and e-mail addresses, phone numbers, and flight arrival information). Those for whom I don't have complete information will NOT have insurance coverage. Coverage will begin on January 15 and last for 21 days, sufficient to cover travel to Cuba, the duration of the Campaign, and the return trip home. To download a copy of the application blank (only to be completed by the Inter-American Division) and description of the coverage (in Adobe Acrobat - pdf - format) just click here on: insurance application and coverage. |
Decision Cards (NEW): (cards 1-4) (cards 5-8) Local Campaign leaders should download the Spanish Decision Cards. They are in Word Perfect format. They should without editing, print them out in sufficient quantity for distribution to every individual attending the meetings. Guest Evangelists can also download cards by clicking on the bold sections just after the heading for this section, and print these out for the purpose of familiarization. |
Laptop computer, video Projector, & remote control: It is important for each evangelist to be able to project the graphics to illustrate the sermons. He/she is free to bring his/her own equipment. But if this equipment is not available, a set can be rented from the Carolina Conference for $350 plus round-trip shipping costs (estimated at $50 each way). The equipment included is a Panasonic video projector (1100 lumen), Dell laptop computer, remote control unit, and aluminum case suitable for checking or carrying on an airplane. The laptop computer will already have installed on it the English and Spanish language PowerPoint presentations. If you want to rent this equipment BE SURE that there is an "X" in the square to the right of your name which indicates that you have reserved this equipment. Then please send a check made out to the Carolina Conference in the amount of $400 (to cover rental plus one-way UPS shipping by air) and mail it to: Mr. Raymond Earle, Carolina Conference of S.D.A., P O Box 560339, Charlotte, NC 28256-0339. This check needs to be in his hands by December 15, 2001. IF your name has the "X" reserving the equipment, and if your check has been received by the Carolina Conference by this date, your equipment will be shipped to you between Christmas and New Years so you will have it about two weeks before you leave for Cuba. Please contact Raymond Earle (704-596-3200) if you have any technical questions. If you want to rent Carolina Conference equipment and there is no "X" by your name, please send me an e-mail (R Folkenberg) or call me at (540) 296-1602. If I'm not at home, leave a message and I'll reserve the equipment for you. Again, BE SURE Raymond Earle has your check by December 15 since he will not ship the equipment until it has arrived. Upon returning home it will be your responsibility to send the equipment back by UPS air within two days. He needs time to check over and clean the equipment before it goes out again. |

Hotel rooms have been reserved for evangelists as follows:
Prices quoted above are in U.S. dollars and to that must be added any over other services you may use such as phone, room-service, laundry, etc. Each guest evangelist is responsible for his/her own hotel bill. While this could change, as of August 2001 US-based Credit Cards were not accepted -- ONLY cash. Please plan accordingly. |
Travel arrangements: 1) Those from outside the USA: Those residing outside the United States can simply arrange travel in a normal manner. Direct international flights are available from many countries to Havana. 2) Those from the USA: Those traveling from the US to Cuba need to plan their travel in three steps.
Though you will receive a copy of the US government's license from Diana Jo Beeler should you need one for any other purpose you may also download a copy in advance by clicking on each of the following two pages: Page 1 Page 2 Please send me an e-mail with your flight arrival information in havana so the Union will be able to arrange to meet your flight. |
Telephone: While it is possible to place telephone calls both to and from Cuba, calls from hotels in Cuba are quite expensive. |
Electricity: The country uses 110 v, 60 cycle electricity just like the USA. | ||||||||||||||||||
Internet access: There is no local access number for CompuServe in Cuba. E-mail service is available to those who reside in Cuba and take the time and trouble to set up an account. Thus visitors to Cuba should only plan to connect to the Internet via long distance calls to other countries. |
Climate: In January we can expect temperatures to range between 75 and 85 degrees farenheit, cooling down in the evenings into the upper 60s or lower 70s. |
Accomodations & Meals: Havana: Those whose Campaigns are in or near Havana will be staying in the same hotel in the capital. I've been promised Hotel information (name, phone number, and price) by September 15 and when I receive it the data will be posted here. We do know that the price of the hotel includes breakfast. The union will transport those individuals to our Seminary for lunch each day. The cost for that meal will be $__ per day. Each person will be responsible for his/her evening meal. Pinar del Rio: Those whose Campaigns are in or near Pinar del Rio will be staying in the _____ Hotel. The price of the hotel includes breakfast. The union will arrange either for the other meals to be taken in the hotel or in the homes of individuals. The corrected information will be placed here. Other cities: Those whose Campaigns are in cities other than the two mentioned above will be staying in the homes of members. The amount agreed upon that those members will be compensated for room and meals is $25 per person, per day. |
Each guest evangelist MUST have his/her valid passport and a visa to go to Cuba. Tourist visas are available in Cancun through the travel agent for a cost of $15. Those who are staying in hotels and who are not the primary evangelist, can enter Cuba using a tourist visa. But, Those who are doing the preaching, or who are staying in people's homes, will need a special "religious" visa which must be secured by the church in Cuba through the ministry of religious affairs. In order to get this visa please I must have the following information sent to me by e-mail about each guest evangelist by September 15, 1001: 1) Full name, 2) Date of birth, 3) Place of Birth, 4) Citizenship, 5) Passport number, 6) Place of Issue, and 7) Date of issue. Additionally, if the guest evangelist is/was Cuban, he/she must provide: 1) the date he/she left Cuba, and 2) the full name of both parents. The cost of this visa is US$80. The Cuban Union will advance the funds to secure these visas and will expect to be reimbursed this expense is cash by the guest evangelist upon his/her arrival in Cuba. (New) By December 31, 2001 the Cuban Union is going to fax me a copy of the visas for those who will need them. I will mail them out as soon as they arrive. You will need to present these visas in Cancún before boarding your flight to Havana. The Union President told me that at times the airline in Cancuún will still try to sell you a tourist visa for $15.00. Though you don´t need it, since you have the religious visa, the important thing is that, even if you have to buy a tourist visa, you BE SURE to present the religious visa to the authorities in Havana when you land there. Don´t give them the tourist visa. |

Immigration: When you arrive in Cuba you will go through both immigration and customs. Be sure to tell immigration that you will be in the country until January __th (or whatever your departure date is) so you will be authorized to stay in the country until that date. Allow yourself a few extra days to cover any eventuality. |

Customs: Please note, it will be FAR better if your laptop and video projector arrives in something looking like a suitcase or a briefcase and NOT in a box. If a customs inspector happens to review your bags it could be that you will be delayed and they could ask you to pay duty, a situation that is less likely to develop if you've packed the equipment as I mentioned. If a customs inspector should happen to open your bags and find the equipment your first line of defense is to tell them that you've been invited to present some lectures and you need this equipment for that purpose. It is likely they will complete a form with the information regarding the equipment you're bringing in the country. You'll be asked to submit this form on your departure. |

Health: It is very important that guest evangelists read very carefully the section on "personal health" found on the "General Information" page. Be sure to go to the organization linked here (www.tripprep.com) and read the information regarding inoculations that may be recommended. |

Jesus Videos: I have received and will mail you by September 15 the a Spanish-Language version of the Jesus Video. Please be sure to bring this with you. The union is responsible to find individuals who will loan their personal video-tape players to project this tape each evening through the video projector you will be bringing. |

Local Transportation: The Union will be responsible, at their expense, to assign someone to pick you up, take you to the Campaign location and bring you back to the hotel each night. |
