Lorraine Hanson, evangelist

Villahermosa, Mexico

When Lorraine Hanson heard an appeal at camp meeting for lay evangelists to volunteer for service in Kenya, she asked God for a sign that she should go. Within 24 hours everything fell into place. Church members helped with her travel costs.

Shirlene Sulatan, above with translator, joined Lorraine to present health talks and together they conducted their first series of meetings. By the time they had finished the series they were hooked. So the two joined forces again in Villahermosa

There's nothing like the joy of leading someone to Christ, Lorraine said. "It does something for you to see them go down in the water of baptism after you've studied and prayed with them. If I had the money I'd go every chance I got."

Church members fulfill their responsibilities as assigned by their pastor who, himself, simultaneously coordinated meetings in nine other churches with their members. "They've been very supportive," Lorraine said.

While adults enjoy hearing the messages in their meeting, children learn lessons on their level.

When the final Sabbath arrived, Lorraine joined with the baptismal candidates from her church and enjoyed watching as they sealed their commitment to Jesus Christ in baptism.
