Kenya National Campaign
May 31 - June 15, 2002
(Last updated September 17, 2002 05:03 PM)
Sabbath, June 15, 2002, baptisms took place at the close of the guest-evangelist phase of the Kenya National Campaign. More than 50,000 members, and candidates from the 33 campaign sites in Nairobi, gathered in Uhuru Park for the celebration. At the close of the message Elder Folkenberg invited all those who were planning to be baptized to please come forward. So many came it seemed to him the call had been misunderstood. So he asked those who were to be baptized to please hold their "baptismal cards" in the air. These cards have the signatures of pastors and elders certifying they had completed Bible studies and had been accepted for baptism. More than 2,000 people raised their cards. Soon thereafter they walked about 1 Km (just over a half mile) to the swimming pool that had been reserved for the occasion. As of August 1, 2002 the total baptisms in Kenya had reached the 20,000 mark. |
